Microsoft Small Business Server retires on 31/12/2013

Windows Server 2012 Essentials (formerly Windows Small Business Server Essentials) is a flexible, affordable, and easy-to-use server solution designed and priced for small businesses with up to 25 users and 50 devices . . .

The above quote from Microsoft is NOT the full picture.
MS Server 2012 Essentials has NO MAIL SERVER, whereas all previous servers bearing the "Small Business Server" label came with Microsoft Exchange. Handling your business email will have to be done outside of the new MS Essentials server, and this could cost more than before.

If you need to replace an old SBS server or are contemplating buying your first server, Davel Technology can supply and configure a Linux-based server for your small business. This will save the licensing costs and allow you to host your business email on the server at no extra cost. But putting your email in a cloud service costs money month after month.

IT distributor MISCO in meltdown?

We, and some of our clients, have used Misco as a source of computer hardware and software, and often the contact with our account manager has led to some good deals being scooped up. But it all changed this summer as Misco's parent company Systemax inflicted some unwelcome changes on Misco's internal staff structure and methods. The result is a shambles.

Timing is everything in this life, and as it happens we recently sourced a tablet and a netbook for two of our clients from Misco, and these turned out to be faulty. Our Misco account manager arranged for the tablet to be returned for repair and a month later the device is now "lost". As for the netbook it has taken over two weeks for Misco to even arrange for the return of the item (which is still waiting on my desk) and counting. (This is true as of 11/10/2013.) You've lost another customer here Misco.
